Side Note #1: Searching for one’s independents..
The purpose of this blog is to talk about web series I’ve enjoyed watching, and consider them a “must watch.” As well as spread the word about this new growing media. Web series in general, are independent from major studios. Therefore leaving the creative control in the hands of those who created the idea of the series. Keeping the idea pure, and not diluted with over editing, unwanted laugh tracks or product placements. The outcome is a refreshing piece of work. You can get the sense of the true talent from all involved. Instead of the remakes, and just going for what makes the most money that major studios tend to push out there…
With that said… The slight downside to this is not having the backing of studios.. Meaning, the funds to produce web series are hard to come by at times, and I think that’s the reason web series are broken down into small episodes. Much like the cliffhanger serials shown before the main movie started.. Back in the day…
With the web series, what I find appealing is the commitment, dedication and love all involved have in creating art for the fans and the public. With this blog, I will continue to post info on quality web series I find and love.
While The Guild was my first web series to get hooked on, I have been finding more amazing series through Twitter. If you are looking for something new and refreshing to watch. I found this awesome weekly suggestion results for web series via @MentalEclectic http://mentaleclectic.blogspot.com/2009/09/webserieswed-definition-and-results.html. He even has one for Independent movies http://mentaleclectic.blogspot.com/2009/09/indiemoviemonday-results-972009.html. There is allot of series out there, and this is a great resource to find them. The Web Series are tallied from a weekly #WebSeriesWed, and the Indie movies are from a #IndieMovieMonday Twitter Hashtag. www.twitter.com
