06: MYMHM- the podcast mention

Have you ever, and I am sure you have, heard your friends talking about this “Awesome!” movie that you must see, but you didn’t? Or even listened to random people talking about movies you never seen released in theaters? Well, this is where Lee Buckley & Juan Bagnell come into play with their weekly podcast MYMHM. Which, of course, stands for ‘Movies You May Have Missed’. Now, I know my blog is for reviewing web series, but pod casts, as mentioned by Kristyn Burtt in her interview on TheWebFiles, was the foundation for web series. Plus, I am a fan of this show. So that being said…

(05/13/09) MYMHM: Episode One

I personally find their reviews very insightful and entertaining. Bringing up valid points about styles of movie making, cinematography and originality; thereby enriching the movie experience, and worth being watched. Some of the movies they review, you may not be into. May not be your type of genre… But with the detailed and honest reviews, I would safely guess, the odds are high that you will 1) Enjoy the pod casts, and 2) Check out the reviewed movies.

At MYMHM, as of this blog post (10-05-09), they are currently at 21 episodes and ready to post the 22nd this Wednesday. They also have several Supplemental episodes, which gives observational and informative bits between shows. Their latest supplemental was on a movie that never made it to theaters, and is released tomorrow (10-06-09)

Juan Bagnell, Yuri Lowenthal, & Lee Buckley

Would lastly like to point out, that normally it is just Juan & Lee hosting the pod cast, but occasionally they have special guests; for instance in episode 17, Kristyn Burtt fromĀ The Web Files was a guest. In episode 12 and the Supplement posted above, Yuri Lowenthal was a guest.

So to wrap this up, I would say that this is well worth the time to watch and subscribe to.

While on the subject of movies, before going back to web series…

Here is a trailer to, what looks like, a good thrilling movie from Monkey Kingdom Productions

You maybe asking yourself, “What the heck is he on? This blog is supposed to be about web series, and he’s gone into pod casts and now movies…” Or you may not be asking that… Well, was considering this to be a Side Note post, but this is closely tied to post 6. You see, Monkey Kingdom Productions was the creation of Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt. Yuri (a screenwriter, playwright, actor as well as Voice Over actor) and Tara (a producer, actress and Voice Over actress), both created this production company

“Monkey Kingdom Productions is dedicated to creating thought-provoking and boundary-breaking, quality films that never pander to the lowest common denominator. We will forge ahead into innovative and exciting filmmaking territory. We promise to bring you intelligent and uncompromising films.” ~excerpt from MKP home page

Yuri and Tara, being Voice Over actors, have combined their knowledge of the art, and added book writing to their list of amazing talents. The book, VOICE-OVER VOICE ACTOR, will surely be informative and entertaining to the struggling actor and the curious reader. With a release date of this fall, they are offering a %15 discount on pre-orders. Believe, that in is effect for less than 30 days now. Truly a great deal.

Their passion and love for independent films and their careers, combined with the passion Juan and Lee have for what they do, is the reason I posted it all in one post.
