08 The Crew: Awesomenisity in Space!

Season one of ‘The Crew’ engaged its web series engines back in January 2009 on KoldCast TV. With 15 episodes averaging between 5-6 minutes in length, this series had a busy season. Full of romance, hook ups, break ups and oh yes! Alien encounters! Writer/creator and actor Brett Register has truly created a fun and addicting series.
The magic needed to make a web series great, does not only reside in with in the script, but with those that bring it to life. It is the talent behind and in front of the camera that gives this series life. Shot entirely with a green backdrop which allows for computer generated backgrounds and effects. These effects open the door for boundless creativity. The effects team that help create the background and outside space scenes did a real great job. Recently, Brett has been making a series of ‘Behind the Scenes’ shorts that take you into the creative process of this show.
And now, unto the actors.
- Tom Wilkenson (Played by Philip Bache) who is the inept yet confidant Chief of the Engine Room.
- Tim Waterson (Played by Brett Register) is the Assistant to Tom. Clearly is more skilled, should be in charge of the Engine Room.
- Patrick Fargent (Played by Craig Frank) is the cool and smart Electrician of the Engine Room.
- Andrea Lee (Played by Ariel Lazarus) the cute Transportation Technician for the Engine Room, and the target of a few admirers.
- Jennifer Parker (Played by Amy Kline) helps the chefs in the residential area of the ship, and caters food to the Engine Room
- Stewart Kobbler (Played by Michael Hart) a janitor who is recently promoted
- Sarah Clauson (Played by Michelle Exarhos) is put in charge of the Engine Room after an occurance.
- Crewman Anderson (Played by Zack Finfrock) a friend of Tim Waterson who gets into hot water..
- Amber (Played by Angie Cole) a friend of Jennifer Parker
- Dr. Marie Taleah (Played by Cathy Baron) … She the Doctor.
- Patrick Fargents Clone (played by Daniel Norman). Obviously the clone, but I bet you’re wondering why another person is playing a clone… Gonna have to watch the series :)
One of many reasons I love this series is that no character is trivial. Everyone is important to the story. The solid performances from everyone, high quality story telling and ingenious background effects truly makes this series one of my favorites.
During the time off between seasons, Brett, along with a talented group of friends, created two mini-web series. One is the a fore mentioned, ‘Lost & Found’, and the second, ‘Craig & the Werewolf’. Both are also solid pieces of creative awesomeness.
Season Two: Picks up right after the catastrophic cliff hanger of the Season One’s finale. Also debuts on BabelGum.Com. This Season is still ongoing, and has several great guest stars: Tom Konkle (SafetyGeeks: SVI and Inventions), Robin Thorsen (The Guild and Movie Mob), Payman Benz, Benny Fine, Jessica Rose, Chad Jamian, Taryn O’Neill (After Judgment, HTSAAAR as well as several TV shows), Woody Tondorf & Daniel Norman… Unknown how many more talented actors this show can hold, but with more episodes still to go. You will have to wait and enjoy.
